Your prayers and donations for the missions make you an essential part of the Outreach Mission Team.
Outreach and Missions Team Goals - 2010
Continue Support for children and youth Outreach and Mission activities - We will provide outreach and mission education to childen and youth groups as requested. We will include children and youth in appropriate outreach and mission activities. We will help financially with outreach and mission activities involving children or youth developed by other church groups.
Continue Providing meeting Space/Services for Military and Community- We will maintain contact with Fleet Family Services and other military and non-military groups to offer space for meetings and other services as needed and available.
Provide Annual Health Fair and Other Health Services for the Community- We will collaborate with health agencies or organizations in the community to offer health services to the local community. Our 2nd annual Health Fair organized by the ODU Student Nurses was held March 27.
Continue Community Meals and Services - We will continue participation in the Ocean View Bag Lunch Program, offer Wednesday evening meals to the community (resuming September 1), offer Holiday community meals and take meals to shut-ins and homeless.
Educate and support the Congregation and Community with ongoing and New Outreach and Mission Opportunities- We will maintain a bulletin board, bulletin and newsletter announcements and church announcements of ongoing and new outreach or mission activities.
We will help in all ways possible any church member's involvement in such activities. Wayne Brown and team have exceeded the goal for Relay for Life with a total of 1500.00+!! A BIG THANK YOU to all on the team, the ones who donated and all those who stopped by the tent to encourage us on.
Miles Relay Team
Continue Overseas Missions and Begin Planning for 2011 Overseas Missions- We will send a work team to Chile the end of July and Early August to do earthquake repairs with our missionary, John Elmore. We will support a young adult mission to the Dominican Republic and support church members desiring to go to Honduras with Friends of Barnabas. We will continue as Relay Center for Operation Christmas Child and continue involvement in Stop Hunger Now.
Continue In-Country Missions and Outreach - We will schedule a work trip with Appalachia Service Project this fall and continue support of Cabin 2 at Occohannock on the Bay with a work trip accomplished on May 6-8. We will evaluate interests and support for Bridges (Miami Afterschool Program), support youth trip with Next Step, support UMCOR disaster relief, support "Shower for Mary" in December and develop outreach to Native Americans.
Covenant Relationships with Rev. John Elmore and Dr. Jocson- Our goal is to develop a covenant relation with John in 2010 and with "Doc Elma" in 2011.
Other- Identify and train new OMT leaders for 2011. The OMT meets at the church the first Tuesday evening each month.
Finally and most importantly, we give all glory to God and thanks to His Spirit in leading us and empowering us to do all these things.
